Utah’s Lingotek makes the cover of ClientSide News
Utah’s own Lingotek (a Politis Client) is on the cover of ClientSide News this month. (Is Translation Memory Obsolete? – pdf). These guys are like the Web 2.0 of language translation.
Mark my words, they are going to change the way documents have been translated because their tool allows translators to be more consistent and to do it much, much faster. Lingotek’s language search engine, as it is called, works similar to traditional search engines. The difference is that it indexes linguistic knowledge from a growing repository of multilingual content and previous language translations, instead of Web pages. Essentially, they are building an Internet/database of sorts of translated documents. Users can then access Lingotek’s database of previously translated material to find more specific combinations of words for reuse. So, instead of trying to retranslate something, Lingotek shows you how it was translated most often by showing you actual examples. Since they are focusing on meaning-based searching, you get higher quality and more consistent translations.
