Taking the wind out of Hillary Clinton

I only heard a little bit of President Bush’s speech last night, but I heard him say one thing that will take the wind out of Hillary Clinton’s sails as far as her campaign platform goes. For the time being . . .

What did Bush say?
“Here we have a serious problem: America is addicted to oil,” Bush said. Hillary, as did Bush, touched upon the country’s dependency upon foreign oil. Hillary did it in her candidacy announcement video.

How the best product wins.
Was this part of her campaign platform? If so, she’ll either not focus on it anymore, or she’ll find a way to pick at Bush’s plan. She has to appear to be a clear and different choice or she won’t make it. She can’t focus on a message that Republicans will focus on as well. If she looks like the same offering, she’s done. This is where you will start to see the smart campaign teams get really good at turning their candidate into something akin to a product offering with benefits, features and a distinguishable brand.

If it comes down to Romney vs Clinton she’s going to have a tough run with what she’s known best for, healthcare, seeing as how Romney has actually done something about it, rather than just talking about, and he can point to being able to unite Democrats and Republicans on the issue.

Still, she’s got the ultimate differentiation point–she’s a woman. Ain’t nobody done seen dat befor’ round dees parts.
