Myth No. 2: Vouchers will divert money from schools
If you’ve been following the “Myths from the Opposition Series,” where I expose the untruths that opponents of the Utah Voucher program are spreading in Utah I’ve got a doozy of a white lie for you today. Get a load of this commonly believed baloney.
Myth: Vouchers will divert money from public schools.
Fact: This is one of the most misleading and dishonest statements in the bunch. Voucher money is not pulled from the state education budget! The money for vouchers comes from the general state budget, which makes vouchers a new state program. Since it’s a state program that money is only used as the legislature approves. If anything, public schools will continue to get more money because the state education budget collects a hefty portion of money from property taxes, and this state is growing. FAST.
