If you look at Mitt Romney’s donations, most of them come from the 84604 zip code (that’s Provo, Utah).
Surprised?
Rudy Giuliani and Hillary Clinton both got most of their donations from New York City. The interesting part is that Clinton’s top five zip codes were all in New York City whereas Giuliani’s were much more diverse. Barack Obama’s third highest donating zip code was the same as Clinton and Giuliani’s No. 1 . . . I have a feeling Clinton is in for a suprise.

Actually most of Mitt’s donations come from California. But I understand the whole per capita thing. I live in Provo and support Romney; I too am a devout Latter-day Saint. One reason I support Mitt is not because he is Mormon, but because of something he is not: a sleaze bag. He’s a responsible person who does not procrastinate. I like that. So maybe I’ll get some money for him (and myself) in the Students for Mitt Program.
Not according to the Washington Post. It says most of his donations came from Provo.
You misunderstand the graphic. It says that he received more donations from that zip code in Provo than from any other zip code. You are reading it to mean that he received more money from one zip code than from the rest of the nation.
that isn’t what it says at all. It says “top zip codes” . . . “total donations”
that could mean total as in “number of donations” and it could mean total as in the actual total dollar amount from that zip code.
If for some reason, you are a part of Romney’s campaign and you’re just trying to set the info right, just say so.
While the number of individual contributors per zipcode may have been highest in Provo, UT for Mitt Romney, California residents contributed more in total dollars to Romney’s campaign than UT residents. Romney’s fundraising in UT stems from a combination of his popularity in the state due to the phenomenal job he did managing the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics together with a religious affiliation.
Mitt Romney raised more money than any other Republican candidate in 30 states. In 21 of the 30 states, Romney collected more than all the other Republican candidates combined. Romney’s base of support is far broader than many in the media portray.
You’re both partially right and partially wrong. If you look at this page (http://opensecrets.org/pres08/geog.asp?id=N00000286&cycle=2008) you’ll see what’s actually going on.
The zip codes listed by the WaPo are correct, *and* they are ranked by total dollars. However, it is incorrect to say that “most” of their donations are coming from those zip codes as the dollar amounts are still quite small compared to the total raised.
Hope that helps.
