John McCain joining the race. Officially.

I meant to put this up yesterday and forgot. If you haven’t heard, John McCain says he is officially joining the race for president. He actually fell prey to none other than George W. Bush in the 2000 campaign . . .

There was alleged to have been a push polling campaign by the Bush camp, in which phone calls were made to conservative Republican voters in the Deep South, allegedly to ask them whether they would support McCain if he had an illegitimate interracial daughter with a black woman. McCain in fact has an adopted daughter from Bangladesh.

He never recovered.

Party? What party?
The pre-primary election time is some of the most fun to watch because it isn’t about winning the election, it’s all about winning the party nomination. Take careful notice of how often candidates like Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton will take shots at each other. With more Republicans entering the race, it’ll be interesting to see what they pull out on each other as well.

This is going to be an interesting election cycle. Neither McCain or Guilliani have the hard core conservative base to rely on AND Romney is going to face a lot of issues about his Mormon roots. Romney is the only candidate that truly can speak to the conservative base of the Republican party, but the move to the center might make Guilliani the stronger candidate.

Our nation’s leaders, throwing mud at each other like little children. It instills such confidence in our political system, does it not?
