Extending kindness and expressing forgiveness

In light of this evening’s tragic shooting at Trolley Square, I think it’s interesting to think about the comments given by Christopher Williams today. His pregnant wife and two of his children were killed by a drunk driver over the weekend.

Williams, who is an LDS bishop, says that his wife of more than 18 years was an example of forgiveness and kindness and that this Valentine’s Day he is asking that everyone do something on behalf of her and their children.

Christopher Williams: “We would invite you, if you are in a position, to extend a single act of kindness, a token of mercy or an expression of forgiveness. Would you do it by Valentine’s Day?”

He says that his two sons would like to read messages and letters of what people are choosing to do to express love and kindness to others. If you would choose to, you can email your messages to williamsvalentine@myavant.com.

I was amazed at Williams’ composure and his ability to forgive. What a great example. Thanks for the reminder on this, Russ.

I was affected by two things. 1)The police spokeswoman was very articulate at the Trolley Square shooting, and was apparently well prepared to say” no comment” or “we don’t know yet”. 2) Most of the major news stations broke their regular programming schedule, except Fox, to cover the scene for at least a 1/2 hour into the situation. Besides affecting the families of those people at the mall, I think it was interesting that the event was covered so extensively, and even made national news. Fox had a headline going across the top of their program, “24″. I think that is interesting as well.
