Babe Ruth the PR guy. How he described his “called shot”
This is a photo of the moment when Babe Ruth allegedly “called his shot” and then hit a home run.
His longtime friend Ford Frick once tried to get the truth from Ruth. Frick asked him, “Did you really point to the bleachers?” The coy Ruth would answer back, “It’s in the papers, isn’t it?”

I read somewhere that Ruth was heard saying that as he pointed he said to the pitcher he was going to hit the ball “down your GD throat.” I prefer to believe that he called the his shot.
Do you know what happened right after that pitch?

He hit a home run?

Ruth crossed the plate laughing after calling his shot and said to Lou Gehrig, “Why don’t you hit one?” Lou Gehrig then hit a homer as well.

Well, there are many people who want to believe that Ruth actually called the shot. There are other people who believe he just pointed at the pitcher, as Clay said. In my opinion, I believe that the reporters tried to spice up the story by saying that he pointed at the bleachers so that they could get that extra “spice.” Most likely, the real event which occurred was Ruth pointing at the pitcher and saying “I’m going to shove this ball down your GD throat.”

hey guys hate to burst your bubble a video came out in 1998 showing that the babe was pointing at the cubs dugout. There was a scuffle about a traded shortstop not getting his world series pay due to being traded. In the video it shows the babe pointing at the dugout screaming this is what you see above. Also it doesnt show that after the homer he turns and gives the cubs the bird.
