Utah Jazz: Where Amazing Happens

A friend made this Utah Jazz video in response to this Houston Rockets video

Cancer Benefit for Cory Alldredge

Many of you probably know someone who has had cancer.

I do.

My grandfather died of a lemon-sized brain tumor, and to say the least, it creates difficult times for a family not only emotionally but also financially. I’m sure Cory and his family could use your help. Details for a benefit are below as well as instructions on how to donate.

visit your local Wells Fargo and donate to the Cory B. Alldredge Fund.

or mail some financial assistance to:

Obviously somebody made this before the Jazz went up 2-0 on the Rockets… poor sap.

KSL gets duped by Pew Survey

Headline: Group predicts rise in Utah foreclosures
First Paragrah: A new report says Utah’s housing bubble is forecast to burst in a big way, with one in 25 Utah homeowners projected to be in foreclosure in the next two years. (Don’t panic. They’re yelling fire in a crowded theater when there’s no fire).

KSL Readers point to the real facts and expose the dollar-driven media BS.

I do lead generation for real estate agents in Utah, and I can tell you first hand, things have picked up big time in the state the last two months. Utah real estate agents I talk to are saying the same thing. As one comment points out “24 in 25 homes WILL NOT be foreclosed upon.” (Caps added for emphasis).

As the other KSL commenter pointed out, “If you don’t spin it the other way, it won’t create that ad revenue pop that will make KSL more $$.”

Dear Zappos: A letter of concern

Dear Zappos.com:

I recently visited your website to look at a new pair of dress shoes. I’m a particular fan of Ben Sherman shoes, so I did a search and found this page. To my surprise there was a great marketing photo next to the results showing a gentleman holding a pair of shoes that I particularly liked. (See photo below).

The problem is that during my search of your site, your greatly marketed shoe was nowhere to be found in the results for Ben Sherman Men’s Shoes. Don’t worry though because I was able to quickly use your photo to match the shoe I wanted over at Shoes.com. (Cool photo though).

Anyone else had this happen before?

p.s. Personally, I love Zappos.com. They have THE best customer service/shipping/return policies around.

SF Olympic torch protest gets PR spin from China

There’s always more than one way of looking at an issue, especially when you’re the PR person who has to make something look “not as bad” as it really is. The guy in the photo is “showing courage” according to the caption even though he’s getting his butt kicked. And San Francisco is apparently “embracing” the torch relay with pride even though security is high and protests are far and wide. (See below).

81% in Poll Say Nation Is on the Wrong Track
Do we really need a poll to reveal that a potential recession is “the Wrong Track?”

Truckers say port of entry costing too much in fuel
“One trucker told us it’s costing him money just to idle, especially at those ports of entry truckers have to stop at.” And it costs the rest of us money “just to idle” in rush hour traffic, in construction zones and at stop lights.

80,000 Jobs Cut in March; Unemployment Rate Rises
“A decrease in jobs leads to a decrease in people working” Gold star for the New York Times.

McCain Rejects Secret Service Protection
Why don’t you put a bulls eye on the guy already.

Hillary Clinton Advocates “Poverty Czar”

“I mean appointing a cabinet level position that will be solely and fully devoted to ending poverty as we know it in America, a position that will focus the attention of our nation on this issue.”

Unless she appoints someone like Milton Friedman (who actually passed away in 2006), a Poverty Czar with a socialized agenda will only make the problem worse.
