October 21st, 2007 — Quotable
Referendum 1 in Utah is a controversial ballot item, but I encourage you to Vote for 1. What I’ve found is that most arguments opposing Referendum 1 are emotional, baseless, and make very little to no sense at all.
Voucher Opponents are Not Telling the Whole Truth!
KSL has done an excellent job of setting the opponents’ misleading ads straight. So if KSL is correct Utah’s teacher of the year lies on camera in one of the ads.

This is a photo of the moment when Babe Ruth allegedly “called his shot” and then hit a home run.
His longtime friend Ford Frick once tried to get the truth from Ruth. Frick asked him, “Did you really point to the bleachers?” The coy Ruth would answer back, “It’s in the papers, isn’t it?”

Some things you just have to share with friends. I got to drive “Eleanor” last night for about 10 minutes. Yep, it’s THE “Eleanor,” a 1967 Shelby GT 500. It’s the actual car from the movie Gone in 60 Seconds with Nicholas Cage and Angelina Jolie. I’m in Pocatello today working on a benefit event for the Idaho Food Bank, and the car in the photo is the actual car.

I’ll just come out and say it. I’m a member of the LDS church. I believe that God still calls prophets as his mouth piece on the earth, and I believe that today, that prophet is Gordon B. Hinckley.
He delivered a speech a number of years back where in the middle of a portion that was on finances he said the following:
“There is a portent of stormy weather ahead to which we had better give heed.”
I said this was a “number of years back,” but it was in 1998 during a talk called “To the Boys and to the Men.” What exactly did he mean by this?
Looking Back
Maybe I’m being a little more candid and a little more personal than normal, but when I look back at this statement made in October of 1999 and then I look at what occurred during the next few years . . . well . . . I think “stormy weather” was the perfect metaphor.
But I really don’t look at the “proof” so much as the clarity with which that statement “portent of stormy weather” so often came to my mind after hearing it. My question now is this: Have we seen this portent of stormy weather already come and pass or is it still here and arriving?

Despite Radiohead’s reported cult status, and though labels have struggled with the advent of online radio and filesharing, record companies still have the broadest reach in mainstream radio world. via MarketingVox
Good point. But, do you still listen to music on the radio? I do, sort of. Reach is one thing, but it has to matter.

What is the secret of the Yankees future success?
Do the Yankees want to begin each season competing for a World Series championship and declaring the season a bust if they don’t reach it? Or do the Yankees want to field competitive teams that consistently make the playoffs and sell out the new stadium? via New York Times
Hmmm.
The bigger question is what do you do when fans, politicians, entertainers and Yankee players all want Joe Torre to stay and not get fired after Steinbrenner hinted that would likely happen. I mean Joe Torre’s name is mentioned in google news right now almost as much as the politicians who are running for president.

If you haven’t heard already, KUTV sports anchor Dave Fox has been in trouble recently with the law for communications fraud. From what I understand, he bought an investment property, said he was going to live in it and didn’t. The problem is, some home loans have stipulations that require you to declare that residence as a primary residence, and that’s not what happened (from what I understand).
He plead in abeyance, paid a $500 fine and has to keep his nose clean for 3 years . . . oh, he gets to keep his job at KUTV as well. See what Dave had to say.
